After another contractor had bailed on us, we reached out to Pillar. They responded promptly, gave an accurate estimate and finished the job as promised. Like most construction projects, we ran into some problems but they worked around it and helped us to end up with a finished product that we are very happy with. Shawn Griffith is an extremely reliable contractor. On this particular project, he did a total gutting and renovation of two bathrooms. In a different home, he renovated two bathrooms and a laundry room. He begins a job when he promises. He has experienced project managers and reliable subcontractors. Our experience is that his jobs come in on price, with the exception of agreed upon changes. When problems occur, he makes them right. His company helps with the design, explaining what can be, what can be done--however it will be costly, and what he does not recommend. His team also helps with material selection, and his team coordinates all of the material supply, except for those limited items that the homeowner choses to supply. We recently used Pillar for a kitchen renovation and are very happy with their work. We met with several companies prior to starting our project and chose Pillar because we liked what we saw of the work they had previously done, they were within our budget and they also made us feel the most comfortable. We lived in our house while the work was being done and Glen and his team did their best to keep things as clean and safe as possible for us both while they were working and after they had gone for the day. Despite the pandemic, we really didn't encounter too many delays. The ones we did were slight and we were kept up to date on the status of everything. Most importantly, Shawn, Glen and the rest of the Pillar team made sure we were happy with the end result and that we got what we wanted. If we asked for something to be fixed or changed, they made sure it got done to our satisfaction. Shawn and his staff did a great job making the sketches and images I initially supplied on my dinning room table materialize into a well-built /designed 3 car garage with bonus storage on top. My wife and I, while looking for our "forever" home & specifically purchased our home and it's location with the intention of being able to build a separate detached workshop/garage area for the many hobbies I have and the additional storage space. Soon after moving into our home I started the search for the right General Contractor that I would feel comfortable with that I could trust and would be able to get the job done. I did my research, believe me. I was very impressed with Shawn from day one, Shawn was no-nonsense and after the usual introduction he was genuinely interested in what my project was. As I stated earlier, I had some sketches and a few magazine pictures of what I was looking for exterior-wise, and Shawn took it from there asking me what type tools/hobbies that I'd be using the garage for? I mentioned some welding, wood-working and so on, and with that he started determining the number of outlets, amp requirements and so on. He wanted to get involved in my project from day one, and that impressed me. Shawn did this all before we got into a price quote for the project. My 3 car garage/bonus room was bid on by 4 other General Contractors in our area. First off, most were not eager to take on a detached garage project, because they were too busy with residential home building. I did not feel comfortable with the sales people that I met with representing some of the other GC's. It just seemed like they really didn't have first hand knowledge of some of the building structure questions that I asked during their meetings with me, as they kept referring to, "What ever the engineers plans call for". Of course, That's several thousand to draw up! Money$$ First question out of most of their mouths, "How much money are you going to spend?" Dead turn off, right away! Shawn, the owner of PILLAR was able to able to provide me with some general details of the proposed structure (unlike the above mentioned), without having to look at a engineers drawing , because he has years of experience and that showed from the beginning to the end of the building project. We put this project off for years, fearing we would run across another "professional" similar to the one who remodeled our master bath in 2007. No glaring problems, but some minor stuff which just did not sit well. We picked Pillar after watching them work on a house in our neighborhood which had a large oak tree fall in the geometric center of the house. Not a speed record on the work, but clearly thorough and professional. Shawn Griffith, owner, came out and surveyed what we had and what we wanted. No fooling, descriptive, took notes and photos, measurements. This was a to the studs remodel of a 50+ sq ft bathroom, with ceiling work, plumbing, no item in the room would stay. The process was very well laid out, with payment schedules, and an in house interior designer person to guide us through the selection process of tile, cabinetry, countertop, all aspects of the job. She proved markedly competent, and the ordeal was done in a few hours. We selected four different tiles and two stone surfaces. It looks great. We felt very well served. The work teams to do the demolition, plumbing, dry wall, cabinetry, tile work, painting, etc. were all on time, competent at least, and careful about leaving any trash/mess. The Pillar teams have been carefully selected, and all are credits to the company. We are pleased. Completely. Our daughter is a MS Architect, licensed, and thoroughly approves of all the work and the quality of it. The remodel project of my beachfront high-rise condo by the team at Pillar included moving the hot water heater and ac/heat air handler, raising the drop ceiling from 18” to 6”, laying 48” x 9” plank wood grain porcelain tile, installing new kitchen cabinets and granite countertops, removing popcorn texture from ceilings, repairing water damaged drywall, installing new lighting and painting. They professionally worked with the condo manager and within the HOA rules. Throughout the project I felt that my questions, requests and suggestions were heard and respectfully addressed. We purchased a mid-century modern home that needed extensive remodeling. This included relocating the front entrance door, and introducing a more open floor plan. The open floor plan required the removal of approximately 22 feet of support walls--to be replaced with a large beam to support the roof trusses. Shawn and his group at Pillar came up with an innovative solution for installing the beam that left only a small portion of it visible in the room. The project also called for installing hardwood floors in the renovated areas. Pillar's sub contractor did a great job matching the wood and stain with the existing floors. Pillar was very good coordinating with its sub-contractors, and making sure they corrected anything not done just right. The end product is a modernized home that is faithful to the original style. After bad damage from Hurricane Irma, multiple companies needed to be hired. We were very pleased with the roofing company we hired, disappointed with the remediation company, thought the window company did "okay", but we were EXTREMELY pleased with the job completed by the Reconstruction company. This reconstruction company was Pillar Construction and Remodel. I worked directly with Shawn Griffith (the owner), as well as a few of his top project managers. He and his crew not only assessed damages, and provided quotes, but they were all very honest with me as to what NEEDS to get done in order to do the job correctly. Since not all damage was covered by Insurance, I knew we'd have some out of pocket expenses, but I wanted to ensure the proper job was done, and that's exactly what Pillar recommended. After fielding several quotes from several companies, I felt most comfortable with going with Pillar, and I'm very glad we did. They were not the most expensive, but they definitely were not the cheapest. However, the old cliche "you get what you pay for" most definitely holds true when dealing with home reconstruction, so I'm very happy we chose quality and someone we felt provided top of the line honesty, integrity, and professionalism, rather than trying to save a few bucks by going with someone cheaper. Pillar rebuilt my fireplace, repaired and replaced a ton of ceilings, drywall, baseboards, and quarter rounds. They repaired outside stucco damage around fireplace chase/wall blend, and completely gutted and rebuilt (upgraded) the Guest Suite bathroom. They also upgraded light switches, installed new sink/garbage disposal, and installed new face on the fireplace. Freshly painted walls in 75% of interior, as well as completely repainted an entire exterior, and all completed under 10 weeks. The place feels brand new, and we couldn't be happier with the job Shawn Griffith and Pillar Construction, LLC have done for us. As soon as I have an opportunity, I will do my best to attach before/after pics, so that you can see for yourself the transformation of this home. The overall cost of project was in the $40-50K range, but there's little doubt that reconstruction Pillar was responsible for didn't help increase the home value by over $55-60K.Read More
